Matthew Koetters

Matthew Koetters brings more than 20 years of criminal defense experience to Bruno Law Offices, where he is dedicated to protecting the rights of individuals facing charges throughout Central Illinois. Before joining the firm, Matthew served with distinction in the McLean County Public Defender’s Office as First Assistant Public Defender.

During his two decades of criminal defense work, Matthew has handled thousands of cases ranging from misdemeanors to the most serious felony charges. His background includes extensive motion practice, trial preparation, and litigation in both bench and jury trials, giving him a deep understanding of how to build strong, strategic defenses.

His years in a high-volume courtroom environment have made him exceptionally skilled at identifying constitutional issues, evaluating evidence, and guiding clients through some of the most difficult moments of their lives.

A graduate of Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, Matthew has spent his entire career defending criminal cases in Central Illinois. Matthew is known for his steady presence, clear communication, and unwavering commitment to fairness in the criminal justice system. His experience leading teams and mentoring younger attorneys reflects his dedication not only to his clients but also to the broader legal community.

Matthew is a lifelong Illinois resident and has lived in the Bloomington-Normal area since 2006, where he and his wife are raising their family. He is active in his church, involved in his children’s sports, and participates in various community organizations.

His deep roots in the community reflect the same commitment and integrity he brings to his work in the courtroom.
